WellGear from Westerbork was voted Drenthe Company of the Year 2025 tonight. The awards ceremony took place in Schouwburg Ogterop in Meppel. The jury praised WellGear as an example of modern entrepreneurship with a Drenthe heart.
WellGear, which will soon move into a new head office in Assen, is a specialist in the dismantling of oil and gas wells, among other things. WellGear’s methods are used all over the world, both on land and offshore.
According to jury chairman Marco Smit, the company has developed in a short time into a global player that knows how to unite innovation, sustainability and craftsmanship. “The organization shows courage by investing heavily in electrification, digitalization and new technologies and thus takes responsibility for the energy transition.”
There were three finalists for the entrepreneurial prize. In addition to WellGear, these were Hof van Saksen from Nooitgedacht and Catering van ‘t Hooge from Hoogeveen.
The three came from a pre-selection of around 150 registrations. 10 companies were allowed to give a pitch to demonstrate why they belonged in the final. The three companies mentioned were the best at this.
WellGear is the successor to Stevast Techniek from Beilen, the company that won the prize last year. Other former winners are Manter from Emmen, InterStage from Meppel and Avitec from Nieuw-Buinen.
The Drenthe Company of the Year takes place every year. Entrepreneurs and administrators who are committed to promoting entrepreneurship in the province form the board and jury of the election.
