Thanks to the efforts of volunteers, Radboud Castle in Medemblik can open its doors to visitors. The team needs new recruits, especially hostesses or hosts. Their appeal through NH Helpt should provide these new colleagues.
The fact that the castle still exists is actually fortunate, explains curator Paulette Kooijman in the knight’s hall. This is because the castle has always been useful for Medemblik. It was always given a new function, so that it retained its value for the city.
Count Floris the Fifth built the castle in 1290 as a fortress; to show the West Frisians he defeated that he was now the boss. It is therefore a sober building, without splendor. For hostess Willy Boshuis, this does not detract from the appearance of the castle. “Look how beautiful this is here,” she says, laughing: “It gives me energy.”
The work of the hostesses and hosts includes receiving visitors and helping them with the audio tour or the treasure hunt. What the future volunteer get in return? Paulette doesn’t have to think about it for long: “A very nice position, in a beautiful place, in a very pleasant team.”
