The coaching question at FC St. Pauli should be clarified. According to a media report from “Bild”, Alexander Blessin will leave the neighborhood club after relegation to the Bundesliga.
The hanging game surrounding Alexander Blessin is apparently coming to an end. According to information from “Bild” the FC St Pauli and the coach go their separate ways after the Bundesliga relegation. There is said to have been no agreement on a shared future in the 2nd Bundesliga.
Sports director Andreas Bornemann made it clear shortly after the relegation that the decision should not be long in coming. “It’s only possible with 100 percent conviction that we can get this done together. As far as the coach is concerned, it has to be clear in the next two or three days: Where are we going?” he is quoted by the newspaper.
The decision comes as no surprise
Instead of a few days, however, it turned into almost three weeks. Numerous conversations are said to have taken place during this time. The club and coach probably couldn’t find a common denominator.
The development had already been indicated recently. Blessin asked for time to think about it after the end of the season and did not publicly announce his intention to stay even weeks after relegation. This is said to have caused doubts among those responsible.

The coach had emphasized several times how much the ultimately unsuccessful fight to stay in the league had burdened him. After the decisive 1:3 defeat against VfL Wolfsburg at the end of the season, Blessin seemed visibly dejected.
The separation has not yet been officially confirmed. Blessin is under contract with FC St. Pauli until the summer of 2027. It is still unclear who could replace the 53-year-old in the coaching bench.
