We need the art of serenity

The work of art “Knotenpunkt”, which is to be erected at the central bus station (ZOB), caused a great deal of criticism even before it was installed. A comment from BZ editor Oliver Ohmann.

Always amazing how art leads to heated discussions.

A plastic is supposed to land on the bus station. It represents a sailor’s knot and costs around 200,000 euros. Between us, exactly the sum that is provided for in the legal framework for “art in architecture”. So the money had to be spent somehow.

Proponents speak of a symbol for the “traffic hub” ZOB. Critics see the artwork as a symbol of the stranglehold of rising costs.

I recommend calm. Let’s check out the artwork when it’s done. And then again in ten years. The first impression often changes in the eye of the beholder.

For example, I now even find architecture from the 1950s beautiful, some German hits from the 1960s and some fashion from the 1970s.
