The warning strike at Amazon in Leipzig has ended. According to the Verdi union, 300 colleagues had participated since Monday. Verdi wants to continue to put pressure on. “The willingness to fight is unbroken. As long as we don’t have a collective agreement, the shop will not find peace here,” said union secretary Ronny Streich on Wednesday when asked.
The warning strike was intended to reinforce the demand for a collective agreement for the approximately 1,100 Amazon employees in Leipzig. At the same time, the strikers demanded respect and appreciation for their work. The second round of collective bargaining is scheduled to take place on July 4th.
Amazon had not seen any impact on customers from the strike. “We offer one of the world’s most progressive work environments with competitive wages, processes and systems that ensure the well-being and safety of all employees,” the company said in view of the strike call. (dpa)
