Almost seven months before the start of the Olympic football tournament in Rio de Janeiro, the DFB, DFL and the clubs are discussing an unofficial regulation on the secondment of professionals. “It shouldn’t be the case that some clubs send four professionals and others none at all,” said Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Völler of the Rheinische Post. Since the tournament is not an event of the world association Fifa, there is no legal obligation to release. The clubs want to reach an agreement. “There are mind games to limit the number of players per club – regardless of their nationality,” said Völler. “I can’t say yet whether it will be one or two players. That will be clarified soon. The most important thing from the clubs point of view is that there will be a limit.”
