Esmee Visser failed to qualify for the five kilometers in Beijing at the Olympic qualifying tournament. The skater from Beinsdorp finished disappointing ninth and will therefore not be able to defend her Olympic title from 2018. Irene Schouten from Hoogkarspel became first and thus took her second Olympic starting permit.

Visser eventually finished in ninth place in the rear in the five kilometers. With a time of 7:13.38 she finished at an appropriate distance from winner Irene Schouten (6:50.48). Besides Schouten, Sanne in ‘t Hof is also allowed to go to China. She eventually finished second to Carlijn Achtereekte. Merel Conijn from Edam eventually finished fourth.

Three starting tickets

For Schouten it meant after the win the three kilometers her second ticket for the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. In addition, it is expected that Schouten will also be designated for the mass start.

The Games begin on Friday, February 4 and run through Sunday, February 20.
