Video: Willem Janssen’s future is still open | 1Limburg

After 18 years, Willem Janssen’s football career will come to an end at the end of this season. He doesn’t know yet what the defender from Well wants to do next. “But it is clear that that career lies within football,” he says firmly.

Janssen is in talks with FC Utrecht, his current club, about his future.

Think it over
The 35-year-old Janssen announced last week that he would end his career as a professional football player after this season. But he doesn’t want to disappear from football. The Limburger is busy thinking about his first step after his professional career, he says in EveningGuests Sports† “My interests are very broad, so it is a difficult choice. I am looking for where my passion lies.”

Youth
A large number of football players continue as a trainer after their career. “In my career I have already trained youth teams and obtained two trainer diplomas,” says Janssen about that option. But he also does not rule out a management position. “By doing things I will find out what I like. But a coaching career can be very different from a policy position.” Janssen wants to use the coming season to discover where his passion lies.

Transfer period
Last week there were reports that Janssen would have been tempted to return to Limburg during the transfer period. His old clubs, VVV-Venlo and Roda JC Kerkrade, had contact with the defender. “It was a bit more concrete with VVV-Venlo, I also talked about it with Marco Bogers. Roda JC was not concrete in that sense. I talked about that in a joke with general manager Jordens Peters. No offer was made. Janssen confirms that reporting.
