Victim died after explosion of petanque ball

The 37-year-old man from Eindhoven who was seriously injured on Saturday evening in the Belgian Ardennes when a petanque ball exploded has died. The man died of his injuries in hospital on Thursday.

That will let the family know on Friday. The family is deeply saddened by the loss of the man: “We are shocked by the sudden death. He will be greatly missed.”

The family and loved ones ask that their privacy be respected so that they can process their grief in peace.

The man celebrated a bachelor party with a group of men in a holiday home in Rivage, close to the Spa-Francorchamps race track. There they had lit a fire pit. There were several petanque balls near or in the fire pit, one of which exploded.
