The trophy room of Casa Milan at this moment makes the hearts of the Rossoneri fans bleed, who observe the past with dismay when thinking about what the present is offering. And even that Golden Ball affectionately loaned by Modric generates a certain anguish: the AC Milan fans now expect Luka to take it away from one day to the next and for them both to disappear. If the extreme need for a strong presence was already felt last summer, having to start again after a horrible eighth place without half a trace of Europe, imagine now. Without a Champions League dilapidated at the last corner and without the supporting structure of the club. It is as if the Croatian hoped in some way to find a valid reason to continue his stay at Milanello. Modric would have liked to leave for the World Cup without worries, after having clarified his professional life starting from August. But here there aren’t even the outlines to try to imagine something. Putting yourself in his shoes in terms of work is not easy: remain with all the risks and uncertainties of the case, or sadly make a full stop? Because, from what we understand, for Luka it’s not a no regardless: uncertainty is his worst enemy. It’s looking around and seeing a club where the sports area doesn’t currently exist. Where it is not known who will sit on the bench. Where, in the absence of clarity, unpleasant internal dynamics could arise again. First problem: if we are talking about “this moment”, it is reasonable to think that not even the owners have particularly clear ideas. Second problem: the longer the days of silence pass, the more likely the day will come when Modric will take the Ballon d’Or away from Casa Milan.
