Max Eberl is under contract with FC Bayern until 2027. Whether the sports director, who recently scored points with some good transfer decisions, will be offered an extension to his working paper is still an open question and should clarify in August. The first members of the supervisory board of the German record champions are said to already have a clear tendency.

As “Bild” head of football Christian Falk revealed in the latest edition of the “Bayern-Insider” podcast, “one or two members” of FC Bayern’s most important committee have already “put their thumbs down” because of a contract extension with sports director Max Eberl. The future of the 52-year-old will then be decided by vote at the next meeting of the Supervisory Board.

Honorary President Uli Hoeneß will then once again “tip the scales,” it goes on to say. In order for him to be able to keep his job, Eberl would have to “really fight,” said Falk. However, if the powerful body were to speak out against extending the contract with the former Gladbach manager, his days would probably be numbered immediately – despite a working paper until 2027.

FC Bayern: Eberl staying without an extension “would be strange”

The sports journalist added that it is “doubtful” whether FC Bayern will go into the 2026/27 season with the sports director if the contract is not extended. “I can’t imagine that that makes sense,” said his podcast colleague Heiko Niederer: “That would be a bit strange if the sports director was working, but everyone knows that he will soon be gone.”

“Sport Bild” had previously reported that Eberl didn’t have much time left to gather arguments for continued employment at FC Bayern. The Munich supervisory board is said to have given him an ultimatum – up to that very meeting of the committee. Until this meeting, Eberl can “continue to work in peace,” as the report states.

In order to keep his job at FC Bayern, Eberl has now switched to “fight mode”. At a meeting in February, he highlighted the commitments of Michael Olise and Luis Diaz, which fall during his tenure with the German record champions.
