After falling into the 2nd Bundesliga, VfL Wolfsburg continues to rebuild its squad and makes use of a fellow relegated team.
Central defender Hauke Wahl is coming to Wolfsburg from FC St. Pauli, both clubs announced on Monday. The 32-year-old has a contract until 2029.
Wolfsburg’s sporting director Pirmin Schwegler said Wahl fits the “profile we are looking for”: “With him we are gaining a seasoned defender who has shown consistently good performances at a high level in recent years.” The club hopes for “defensive stability” and “leadership qualities”.
Wahl spent much of his career at Holstein Kiel and also played for SC Paderborn, FC Ingolstadt, 1. FC Heidenheim and St. Pauli.
