The camper that fell through a boardwalk at the Grolloërveen last week will remain there for a while. Staatsbosbeheer announced this.
No solution has yet been found for removing the vehicle. According to a spokesperson for the nature organization, this requires a lot of accuracy.
“The boardwalk is significantly damaged, but everything near the camper is intact and we would like to keep it that way,” explains Hans Alting of Staatsbosbeheer. On Friday, forest ranger Linde Veldhoen already said that she wants to avoid “tasting” of fuel, for example, at all costs.
Things went wrong in Grolloërveen on Thursday evening. Campers took the wrong turn and drove onto the boardwalk into the middle of the nature reserve. The wooden planks could not support the weight of the vehicle and broke in half on one side.
According to the forest ranger, the people in the camper were very shocked. They received a fine for driving on the boardwalk. The damage will have to be settled through the insurance company.
“We are now in contact with a recovery company to see how we can best get the camper out of there. That could take the entire week. Because we don’t just want to enter the Grolloërveen with heavy equipment because of the vulnerable peat area,” says spokesperson Alting.
Walkers and cyclists must therefore take the closure of the boardwalk into account for the time being. According to Hans Alting, the popular Sprokkelspoor passes through this place. “People can now only walk half that route, only the short route is possible.”
