VfL Bochum, which started the season poorly, and its director of squad management, Johannes Waigand, are going their separate ways after just under five months. The second division team announced on Friday that both parties had agreed to terminate the contract at the end of the season. The 35-year-old squad planner Waigand will be relieved of his duties with immediate effect due to “different opinions on the direction of the sporting management,” according to a statement from the Revierklub.
“We would like to thank Johannes Waigand for his support and wish him all the best for the future, both personally and professionally,” explained VfL managing director Ilja Kaenzig. Waigand said: “I would like to thank VfL Bochum for their trusting cooperation and hope that the club can continue on the positive path it set out with last Saturday’s win.” The people of Bochum want to provide information about a succession plan as soon as possible.

After sports director Dirk Dufner was released on September 15th, Waigand was also without a future. Both had worked closely together. According to the “WAZ”, VfL was said to be dissatisfied with the work of the squad planner – for example, Waigand was blamed for poor communication around some transfers.
