VfB Stuttgart: Purchase option for Tiago Tomas revealed

After VfB Stuttgart recently reinforced with Tiago Tomas from Sporting SL, more information about the modalities of the loan transfer is now leaking out. In addition, VfB legend Krasimir Balakov commented on the attacker.

On Sunday evening, one day before the transfer deadline, VfB Stuttgart announced the transfer of the Portuguese U21 international Tiago Tomas from Sporting Lisbon. First, the Swabians loan the 19-year-old striker until the summer of 2023, after which there is a purchase option.

According to information from the “kicker”, this is around 15 million euros. According to the trade magazine, there is no obligation to buy, as rumored elsewhere. What is less known is what happens if VfB should be relegated. It is not known whether the purchase option will still exist. However, the overall package for the current table 17. the Bundesliga then be a size too big anyway.

According to the report, VfB will pay a fee of 500,000 euros for the one-and-a-half-year loan that has now been arranged. Should Tomas actually return to Lisbon in the summer of 2023, he would be tied there until 2025.

Tomas a “typical mislintat player”

But it shouldn’t get that far. In the best case, the 19-year-old matures into the desired reinforcement and relieves the weakening offensive.

Tomas will make VfB “more variable in attack,” said sporting director Sven Mislintat: “Tiago won the Portuguese championship with Sporting last season and recently won the league cup. He also played in the Champions League and proved his qualities there too placed.”

VfB legend Krasimir Balakov also praised the transfer. “This is a typical mislintat player,” said the former Bulgaria international, who has made a name for himself both as a playmaker at Sporting SL and as part of the magic triangle at VfB Stuttgart.

Balakov: VfB Stuttgart can be happy about the transfer of Tiago Tomas

“Tiago is very talented, quick and very agile, but not the strongest – and he’s not a typical goalscorer,” Balakov warned. Looking at the bare numbers, the 55-year-old is correct. In 48 appearances in Portugal’s bel étage, he only scored three times. However, he was only allowed to go the full distance in three games and came off the bench 31 times. He scored one goal in six games for Portugal U21.

Balakov “didn’t want to judge whether he can be an immediate help for VfB, we’ll see.” The only thing that is clear for the Bulgarian is that the Stuttgart team can consider themselves lucky to have signed the talent.

“Sporting is an almost inexhaustible source of top talent, discovering and developing exceptional players year after year, including Tiago. And usually such guys only move to the top clubs in Europe,” said Balakov.
