Sebastian Hoeneß has extended his contract with VfB amid speculation about a possible departure from Stuttgart. Instead of until 2025, the head coach, who was most recently linked to FC Bayern Munich, is now tied down until 2027.

“Sebastian Hoeneß and VfB fit together perfectly,” explained CEO Alexander Wehrle. “As a youth player, Sebastian wore the jersey with the red chest ring; his connection to the club and the people in the region is clearly noticeable. Sebastian committed to VfB at the end of last season, when the sporting prospects were anything but rosy. He believed in the potential of the team and the entire club and put things on the right track with great commitment.”

Hoeneß, who recently emphasized that he felt comfortable at VfB and showed no interest in a move, now explained: “For me, VfB is a special club. Even as a little boy, I sat here in the stadium and cheered for VfB. I also wore the coat of arms on my chest for three years as a youth player around 25 years ago and became German champion with VfB U17. For me, VfB means emotion – something very special (…) Together we managed to lead VfB on the right path. Our goal must be to take this path sustainably in order to permanently establish VfB in the top half of the table again.”

Sports director Wohlgemuth particularly emphasized the importance of Hoeneß for the club. “The early extension of the contract with Sebastian Hoeneß is as important for our further sporting development as no other personnel in the club at the moment. “It’s Sebastian himself who takes a back seat and always puts the team spirit first,” said the official about his trainer, who took over VfB almost a year ago when they were bottom of the table and was able to stay in the league thanks to the successful relegation games against HSV. Participation in the Champions League next season is now within reach for the Stuttgart team.
