Verdi calls on aviation security personnel to go on strike

The strikes were initially only announced for Thursday, but now there will also be a strike on Friday. The Verdi union is negotiating wages for 25,000 employees.

The Verdi union also called on aviation security staff to go on warning strikes at several German airports on Friday. Hanover Airport announced this on Wednesday. It initially remained unclear which airports besides Hanover were affected.

Five rounds without a result

According to the airport association ADV, around 90,000 passengers will have to prepare for flight cancellations and delays due to the announced warning strike on Thursday at the five German airports. The association is currently expecting more than 580 canceled flight connections on Thursday alone.

No agreement has been reached between the collective bargaining parties in the five rounds so far – the next round of negotiations will take place on March 20th. Verdi is negotiating deals for 25,000 employees in this area.

This is just one of several tariff disputes in air transport in Germany at the moment. Most of them concern Lufthansa and its passengers. Among other things, the conflict with Verdi among the Lufthansa ground staff and with the flight attendant union UFO among the cabin crew remains unresolved.
