Underage girls ‘never want to travel by train again’ after train jerk incident

A man sits across from you and starts to satisfy himself out of nowhere. You don’t mind something like this, but happened to two underage girls aged 11 and 16 last Saturday evening. The sisters took the train from Amsterdam back to their hometown of Hoorn, but once they arrived at the station, a passenger who had just boarded decided to jerk himself off in the presence of the minors. The suspect has still not been caught. “They are very affected and never want to travel by train again.”

“Every time they try to talk about it, they fill up,” said Sezina Kelsey Steur (18), who is the older sister of the two victims. “Normally I always travel with them and the one time I don’t, this happens. It’s very sad that there are people like this in this world at all.”

Sezina clearly sees that the horrific experience has had a profound impact on her two younger sisters. “They no longer dare to pay by card alone, walk the dogs or go to the supermarket. They always have the idea that they have to look over their shoulder.”

Victim Support

Victim support has now been offered to the minors, but the sisters are not yet sure whether they want to make use of this. “The image of the abuser no longer leaves their retina,” continues the eldest sister. “Today the youngest went back to school. Normally she always feels like going to class, but this time it was different. When the teacher gave her a big hug, she filled up again.”

Sezina is therefore furious at the young man’s act and posted a statement on her Instagram:

The incident in the train between Amsterdam and Hoorn follows the assault of another young woman only two weeks ago on a train between Amsterdam and Alkmaar. There, a woman was assaulted by a man for no less than 40 minutes. After a search, a suspect was eventually arrested.

There was much indignation at the fact that not a single conductor came along who could have helped the girl. There was no help for these girls either. The NS does say it is investigating the matter.

Cameras

The NS has cameras in various places, such as on platforms, the entrance to the train doors and in some train compartments. After inquiries with the Dutch railway company, it appears that there was no camera in the relevant compartment – where the two victims were sitting at the time. “The images have been handed over to the police,” concludes spokesman Elvira van der Vis of the NS. “It is very brave that they dared to address this man about his behavior and that they then informed fellow passengers.”

“It is painful for us that a similar incident has occurred again within a week and a half,” continues Van der Vis. “We have a number (0613181318) where passengers can send a WhatsApp or SMS report about an unsafe feeling or nuisance in NS trains.”

outrage

The eldest sister of the victims thinks the response of the NS is a bit of a weak answer. “During such a situation, that emergency number isn’t the first thing that comes to mind, is it? That boy was very freaked out and my sisters were terrified.”

Sezina herself believes that the camera images should always be viewed live by someone from the NS, so that action can be taken quickly. The incident has also caused a lot of mistrust in herself. “I will never travel alone by public transport again. You never know which crazy people are walking around.”
