That is what party leader Robert van Asten announced on Friday on the local radio station Den Haag FM. “It is wonderful that a child hero like Edwin Rutten, someone we almost all know from our childhood, wants to continue to work in this way for the next generations,” says Van Asten.
Rutten made more than two hundred episodes of De Film van Ome Willem between 1974 and 1989. He is also known as a jazz musician. He made the Jazz op Zes program for Omroep MAX for years.
It happens more often that well-known Dutch people sign up as list pushers in municipal politics. For example, showbiz expert and musical producer Albert Verlinde obtained a VVD seat in his hometown of Vught a few years ago.
