U21 hero before moving to THW Kiel?

At the U21 World Cup, the German national handball team caused a sensation by winning the title. A player should now be the focus of THW Kiel.

As the “Sport Bild” reports, circle runner Justus Fischer is in the sights of the HBL champion. According to this, there are currently numerous rumors about a possible change, which is a “tussle topic” around the handball halls in Germany.

However, Fischer is still tied to TSV Hannover-Burgdorf until 2025. An exit clause should not be anchored in the contract of the 20-year-old.

THW Managing Director Viktor Szilagyi did not want to comment on the speculation. “I don’t want to comment on something like that,” he told the newspaper.

With Hendrik Pekeler and Patrick Wiencek, the people of Kiel have two world-class pivots. The duo is complemented by the Norwegian Petter Øverby. However, the two retired national players are already 32 and 34 years old.

Should Fischer join THW Kiel in the summer, he could benefit from the experience of Pekeler and Wiencek and continue to mature at the Nordklub. However, the prospects for a lot of playing time would probably not be very rosy.

At the U21 World Cup, Fischer excelled in the German team. The youngster not only scored the second most hits of the DHB stars, but was also voted into the all-star team as the best line runner.

Fischer a candidate for the home EM 2024?

In April 2023, Fischer was even allowed to get a taste of air with the senior national team and was called up to the squad for the EHF Euro Cup against Sweden and Spain. The youngster was able to score two goals.

Former DHB Vice President Bob Hanning recently demanded that Fischer should also be part of the A squad at the 2024 home European Championship.

“In order not to wake up with a hangover soon, I consciously and emphatically demand: Change now! Let’s be brave. Let’s play players like mini-witch David Späth, Kreis-Kante Justus Fischer or the back space rockets Renars Uscins and Nils Lichtlein immediately move up to the A-Team,” he wrote in a “Picture” column.
