As expected, Matthias Braunöder is leaving Bundesliga club Austria Vienna and joining Italian second division club Como 1907. The midfielder signed a loan contract with the second-placed team until the end of the season, who also secured a purchase option.
The Austrian U21 captain was no longer in the favorites this season; he had played 23 competitive games until the winter break, but was only in the starting line-up eleven times.
Austria sports director Manuel Ortlechner said about the departure: “Motz has the tangible chance at Como to play in Serie A next season against top teams like Juventus, Inter Milan & AC Milan – his coach there is the former world-class player Cesc Fàbregas. That’s why I can understand why this move is very attractive for him, even though the departure is painful for us as a club. From our point of view, Motz is and remains a prototype of the Austria way and a role model for all academy players and Young Violets who want to gain a lasting foothold in the fighting team and have a top five league in mind as their main goal.
