Two top clubs still want Malick Thiaw in winter

Will FC Schalke 04 lose one of their top performers for the remaining 14 games in the second half of the season? Reportedly, Malick Thiaw is being fiercely courted by two of European football’s heavyweights.

Malick Thiaw is Schalke through and through. Even as a young teenager he wore the jersey of the Royal Blues. In the meantime, the 20-year-old has fully arrived at the pros and is one of the top performers under coach Dimitrios Grammozis this season, after Thiaw had already played numerous games in the second half of the relegation season.

The fact that the defender is doing his job particularly well at the moment is apparently also being noticed beyond the 2nd Bundesliga. According to information from “Sky Italia”, a prominent duo has the German U21 international on the list and is even considering a winter transfer.

Specifically, according to the report, it is about Liverpool FC and AC Milan. Accordingly, the Serie A club has already started specific negotiations with FC Schalke 04. It is not said how far these have progressed. The only thing that seems clear is that Jürgen Klopp’s club also wants to have a say. The Reds are reportedly a serious competitor to the Rossoneri.

Klopp has already had good experiences with central defenders from Gelsenkirchen. In 2016, the German cult coach Joel brought Matip from FC Schalke 04 to Liverpool, where Matip is still active today.

Would Schalke 04 give up Thiaw at all?

Whether Milan or the Premier League: If the rumors about the strong interest of the two top clubs are true and a winter transfer is actually in the room, the time for a change is running out.

The transfer window closes on January 31, by which time the deal would have to be completed.

With a view to the fight for promotion to return to the Bundesliga, however, it is extremely questionable whether FC Schalke 04 would even give up Thiaw, who was tied until 2024.
