Two drivers punished after accident that killed woman (28)

The court in Breda has convicted two people because they were involved in a fatal accident in November 2020 on the N261 near Waalwijk. The accident cost the life of a 28-year-old woman from Tilburg.

A motorist from Waalwijk was given a community service order of 240 hours and she is not allowed to sit behind the wheel for a year. A man from Uden, who was driving another car, has to pay a fine of 1000 euros. He loses his driver’s license for two months when he goes wrong again for the next two years.

The Udenaar is accused of dangerous driving. He had briefly turned his attention to his mobile phone while driving, because he wanted to switch on his navigation app. For example, he was unable to keep his attention on the traffic all the time, which resulted in a collision.

The accident on the Midden-Brabantweg, as the N261 is also called, happened on November 3, 2020, in the evening. At least three cars were involved. The Tilburg woman died on the spot, another passenger was injured.

Major consequences for many people
The accident did not only have consequences for the next of kin and the two drivers who were convicted on Friday. A police officer from the Loon op Zand unit also had a bad experience.

During the aftermath of the accident, he heard a cheeky comment from a bystander that touched him deeply. “Go to work man!” said a motorist, who could not continue because the police, ambulance and Rijkswaterstaat were busy. “Am I hearing this right? Do you think we like this? (…) be glad you can go home to your family,” the agent wrote in a candid statement on Facebook.
