Young AZ won against MVV Maastricht. The youngsters defeated the Limburgers 3-1. Goals came through Yusuf Barasi, Finn Stam and Ernest Poku. The game was halted for fifteen minutes after Stam’s goal, after ‘supporters’ of MVV threw objects on the field.
There were three players in the base at Jong AZ who won the Youth League on Monday: Fedde de Jong, Lewis Schouten and Ernest Poku. Finn Stam was also in the base with the young Alkmaarders, but was suspended on Monday. The first opportunity of the game was for the home team. Koen Kostons headed from close range into the hands of goalkeeper Daniel Deen.
AZ was dangerous for the first time via Schouten. He forced Romain Matthys to a rescue. Opportunities piled up on both sides in the remainder of the game. For example, Deen had to stretch on a long shot from Jarne Steuckers, Kostons shot wide and Ruben van Bommel’s bet went wide. Ernest Poku, on the other hand, was close, without success.

De Jong tried it from a distance in the second half. His shot just missed the posts. The visitors had the best chances in the first phase after the break, as Poku hit the crossbar moments later. AZ’s offensive play was eventually rewarded. Iman Griffith rounded the keeper and shot towards goal. The ball was taken away from the line by Rein van Helden’s hand, giving him a red card and a pingel for Jong AZ. Yusuf Barasi got behind the ball and hit it: 0-1.
Flame in the pan
The game seemed to end quietly, but within two minutes the fire hit the pan. First, Dailon Livramento equalized out of the blue. Finn Stam, however, made it 2-1 less than a minute later. The ‘supporters’ of MVV were so angry that they threw objects on the field. It was temporarily suspended and resumed after just over fifteen minutes. The victory was not given away after this. The Alkmaar promises will play against TOP Oss on May 8.
