After the fatal accident on the A555, two former FC young players are on trial. They are said to have been traveling at more than 200 km/h.
More than two years after a fatal accident on the A555 near Cologne, the trial against two former young players begins on February 20th 1. FC Cologne. A mother and her daughter died in the accident. Observers expect an emotional trial.
According to the prosecution, the two drivers decided to organize a race while they were still on the A4. At the Cologne-Süd motorway junction they changed to the A555 in the direction of Bonn. There they are said to have accelerated their Audi A5 and Mercedes E400D several times to speeds of more than 200 km/h, sometimes even to 210 to 215 km/h. They also used the hard shoulder for their maneuvers.
Both drivers had to brake briefly in the area of a construction site. Shortly before the Wesseling junction they accelerated again to over 200 km/h. At this time a VW Polo was traveling at around 100 km/h. The speed limit at the scene of the accident was 120 km/h.
The proceedings were originally supposed to take place at the Brühl district court. However, due to its large size, the court referred the case to the Cologne Regional Court. Numerous witnesses reported to the police after the accident and observed the alleged race.
The Cologne public prosecutor’s office explained the long wait until the start of the trial with a report that was significantly delayed. The court has scheduled a total of six days of hearings.
