In addition to the canonical rear-wheel drive version, the smallest of the M Motorsport brand sports cars features all-wheel drive. Despite unchanged power, acceleration times from 0 to 100 km/h improve
There BMW M2 it was the last car in the M Motorsport family not to be available with the M xDrive all-wheel drive. This is a special variant of the classic four-wheel drive scheme of the Bavarian company, specifically developed by the M sports division to improve performance when driving at the limit. To the point that, as on the M4 and M5, also in this case there remains the possibility of completely decoupling the front axle and send Like this 100% of the power on the rear. This is the “secret” of the 2WD driving mode, which can be combined with the total deactivation of the traction control to perform traverses with smoking wheels.

Beyond 2WD mode, the operating logic of the M xDrive all-wheel drive still favors the rear axle. In normal conditions of use, in fact, the power is discharged almost entirely behind the driver, while the front is engaged if a loss of grip is detected. Managing everything is the central transfer case, which uses a series of multi-disc clutches to partialize the amount of torque sent to each axle. This is combined with a rear differential specific to M Motorsport cars. An active component, because it is capable of applying a variable clamping force depending on various parameters.
same horsepower, more acceleration

The all-wheel drive BMW M2 retains the straight-six of its rear-mounted counterpart. And this means that the power is totally unchanged, remaining at altitude 480 HP. The adoption of a four-wheel drive system, on the other hand, guarantees better traction during acceleration and thus allows the “0-100 km/h” time to be reduced. Compared to a rear-mounted M2, therefore, an all-wheel drive M2 saves 3 tenths of a second, with a 0-100 km/h equal to 3.7 seconds. The maximum speed remains self-limited to 250 km/h, which can become 285 km/h by adding the M Driver’s Package.
