Overgrown plants and muck ensure that the harbor along the Perseus in Hoogeveen cannot be used. Residents are fed up and want the municipality to take action. That now seems to be happening.
The municipal council will investigate how the harbor can be made clean and usable again. This happened after five factions raised the alarm about the situation during the council meeting on Thursday evening.
Municipal interests, GroenLinks-PvdA, Echt Hoogeveen, SP and the Christian Union want the municipality to take action. The rest of the city council thinks it is a sympathetic proposal and agrees with it.
Retiring councilor Niek Wind responded that discussions are already being held with the Drents Overijsselse Delta Water Board. “Particularly to see what the municipality can do and what the role of the water board is in this situation.”
According to Wind, the municipality will investigate which clean-up work can be carried out without affecting flora and fauna. “Without having to do major ecological research. Our team will tackle that.”
The harbor is located along the Perseus in the Krakeel district. According to local residents, the harbor has become overgrown with plants and silt. The water is therefore no longer navigable for small boats and fishing is no longer possible.
Recently, a jetty costing around 38,000 euros was even built. “A facility that is not usable in practice. Residents experience not only disappointment, but also a clear decline in the neighborhood,” the neighborhood writes in a letter.
To give the subject as much attention as possible, a petition was started to collect signatures. After enough scribbles, the petition was handed over to councilors who then exposed the problem in municipal politics.
It is not yet clear what kind of clean-up work the municipality can carry out. This will be further investigated in the near future.
