The KMar only issues emergency passports in a few places in the Netherlands. In addition to Schiphol and the port of IJmuiden, these are the airports of Rotterdam (Rotterdam-The Hague Airport), Eindhoven, Groningen (Eelde) and Maastricht.

The spokesperson cannot say with certainty how many travelers at Schiphol are affected by the disruption. “Dozens of emergency passports are normally issued per day at Schiphol.” He estimates that his colleagues have had to disappoint a handful of travelers.

At the IJmuiden ferry port, where the ferry to Newcastle in the United Kingdom departs, far fewer emergency passports are applied for on an average day. “It’s much quieter there.”

It is not known what the cause of the malfunction is and how long it will take to resolve it.
