“We are proud that we can continue this craft”: these are the 2 new recognized horse fishermen and chefs Ian Van der Stricht and Renzo Truwant

As of today, there are fifteen recognized shrimp fishermen on horseback in Oostduinkerke, because Ian Van der Stricht (36) and Renzo Truwant (45) have passed their exam after first following a two-year training course. No, you can’t just call yourself an Oostduinkerke horse fisherman. The craft is recognized by UNESCO as intangible heritage. Not only shrimp fishing unites the two newcomers, they also share their love for cooking and that of course comes in handy.
