One day after the 18-year-old’s serious injury, further details of what happened are now known.
Now more details about the injury are becoming known. “Bild” reports: The injury did not occur during the official final training before the last World Cup test against the USA. Instead, after the training game, Karl stayed on the pitch with several teammates to additionally practice scoring goals. And then it is said to have happened: the Bayern professional sustained the injury on his last attempt to finish. According to the report, Karl is said to have felt a pulling sensation in his adductors immediately after the action.
The severity of the injury was immediately apparent: Karl’s tears were still flowing on the pitch, vice-captain Antonio Rüdiger looked after the dejected teenager and accompanied him to the dressing room. However, not all teammates noticed the scene immediately, as the team had previously trained in several groups.
After the final training session before the World Cup dress rehearsal against hosts USA on Saturday, the 18-year-old was taken to hospital for further examination. Karl has now returned to Germany. He landed at Munich airport on Saturday afternoon.
