“It was one of those laps where I managed to put everything together, I knew the last one was good and I hoped it was enough, today we managed to improve. It was a magical lap.” Kimi Antonelli thus celebrates his first pole position in Formula 1 in the Monaco GP, the second ever for an Italian driver after Jarno Trulli in 2004. Four consecutive victories, the top of the World Championship, the concrete possibility of fighting tomorrow to win in his second year in F1 a GP which for many drivers would be the culmination of an entire career. It’s not just that ride that’s magical, it’s the entire moment of it.

Interviewed just after the feat, the Bolognese confirmed his happiness and set an appointment for tomorrow, the day of the race, the even more important one: “You have to go ever closer to the limit – said the World Championship leader – and it’s not easy, I’m happy with this pole. I’m enjoying the drive, the car and the weekend and we’ll see what happens tomorrow”.

He will have to watch out for a Max Verstappen at the start who really made him suffer, given that he stopped just 43 thousandths from pole. “If yesterday they had told me that I would get to the front row, I would have certainly accepted – said the Red Bull world champion -. Until this morning we had some difficulties, being there at the front is positive. I am very happy to be on the front row. Tomorrow we will have to see the start, which will not be easy. With these cars we are even more at the limit, but when you manage to do a clean lap it is really very satisfying” added the Dutchman, for once less sulky when talking about the single-seaters 2026.
