The Toyota Group announces the birth of a new brand during Japan Mobility ShowJapan’s main car show. It will be called Centuryand will be reserved for the creation of ultra-luxury cars, positioning itself one step higher than the Lexus. The name is not new at all, on the contrary, it comes directly from one of the most significant chapters in Toyota’s history. Century is in fact theflagship historically at the peak of Japanese car production, originally introduced in 1967 and since then always used even by the Emperor of Japan himself in official ceremonies. A very heavy legacy for a new manufacturer, who aspires to bring the country of the Rising Sun into the championship game.extra-luxurya sector historically dominated by European manufacturers such as Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Land Rover and Maserati. And to do so, we start with three different models: an existing flagship and an SUV, plus a third car anticipated by a concept brought to the stage of the Tokyo Mobility Show.

As mentioned, the Century range will debut with three different models. We start from the third generation offlagship symbol of the brand, characterized by a retro style directly inspired by its ancestors. This is also offered in a particular sporty setup called Grmnwhich is characterized by a more aggressive aesthetic kit, sports rims and an increased braking system. Under the hood there is a V8 engine of 5 liters of displacement, combined with a scheme full hybridwhich in the case of the standard version delivers a total of 431 hp.

The second model in the Century range is a large SUV, 5.2 meters in length by 1.99 meters in width. On the stage of the Tokyo Mobility Show, the Century SUV debuts one of the features that will distinguish the new direction of the Japanese brand, the opening of a department Tailor Made for the total customization of cars. Under the hood the SUV features a 3.5 liter V6 of displacement combined with two different electric motors, one per axle, for a total power of 412 HP.
Concept
—
The absolute protagonist of the launch of the Century on the stage of the Tokyo Mobility Show is a concept which anticipates the features of the third model of the Japanese manufacturer. The setting is peculiar, which combines a two-door coupé body to an evidently raised structure which moves it into the i segment large SUVs. The expectations placed by the Toyota Group on this model are high, which will have to complete the range of a manufacturer capable of “bringing the spirit and pride of Japan throughout the world”, as explained by the CEO Akio Toyoda during the presentation.
