Top chef Soenil Bahadoer immediately got two Michelin stars with his newly opened restaurant gem. in Gemert. That was announced on Monday during the annual presentation in Maastricht. For the chef it was an emotional moment: “I dared to take the step,” Bahadur said visibly.

This year, Bahadoer ventured into the deep: after thirty years he said goodbye to his beloved restaurant De Lindehof in Nuenen to start a new chapter with gem. “I have taken a big step,” he told visibly emotionally on stage. “The Lindehof was, and is, my child. It was very difficult to let it go. I shared sweet and sorrow with my team.”

Bahadoer is visibly proud of the performance. “Last year I was here too, and it is almost unbelievable how fast we grow. I have had the guts to start again, that feels like top sport. Where others stop, I went on. My wife and my team are my motives; I do it for them.”

Bahadoer gave a tour in his new restaurant in July:
