Toboggan race in doubles to gold and silver – Olympia

In the doubles, the German lugers were clearly on course for a medal right from the start at the Olympic Games. In the final, the two duos made up gold and silver among themselves on Wednesday. The Olympic champions Wendl/Arlt prevailed in a close duel ahead of the world champions Eggert/Benecken.

German duos ice cold on course for gold

The duo Eggert/Benecken, highly rated as gold favourites, decorated with bronze in 2018 and already winners in the overall World Cup before the highlight of the season, had presented with a track record. But Wendl/Arlt, Olympic champions in 2014 and 2018, broke the record of the top favorites shortly afterwards and, after a mixed season, announced their ambitions of winning the Olympic competition with a thin lead of 45 thousandths of a second at halftime.

Wendl/Arlt Olympic champions for the third time

In the final run, Eckert/Benecken had to get on the track ahead of Bayern. The nerves held and a medal was certain after the second round. But which ones? Since the two “Tobis” from Königssee didn’t miss a beat in the Yanqing ice track, the Thuringian team won silver. Wendl/Arlt were 0.099 seconds faster overall and easily caught up with the golden harvest. After 2014, 2018 and 2022 they will also write themselves into the Olympic history books as winners.
