The boy band De Toppers was ‘only’ twice in the Johan Cruijff Arena this year and that is a bit scanty. Is it time for fresh blood? “I would throw out Jan Smit and trade in for Tino Martin.”
It is a huge every year happenance In Amsterdam: the sing -along party of the Toppers. At the peak they managed to fill the stadium six (!) Times, but last weekend only two concerts took place: one on Friday and one on Saturday evening. Is it perhaps time for some new energy? A new band member?
Last in, first out
Private boss Evert Santegoeds recommends going for Tino Martin. “Yes, that seems to me, and maybe it doesn’t hurt at all to mix things up,” he says in the podcast Strictly private. “Then I think Tino Martin is a nice addition.”

Evert means a departure from Jan Smit, who was the last added. “Yes, or Jeroen van der Boom. He starts for himself, isn’t it? He has been in Ahoy now, five times. So yes, of course he also believes that the toppers are completely belonged to. Changing something, that would not hurt. Then Tino Martin is the first candidate.”
He himself would throw out the Volendam singer. “Jan Smit will hate me …” he says. “But a cook sometimes changes something about a recipe.”
