“Through hell and back” – Corona odyssey of the skeleton driver Meylemans – Olympia

After her Corona odyssey, the Belgian skeleton rider Kim Meylemans spoke up again with an emotional appearance and received a lot of support from her home country. She went “through hell and back and then back to hell,” said the 25-year-old athlete in a post on Instagram.

Positive, negative, then positive again

When she arrived in China before the Olympics, Meylemans had tested positive for Corona and, after a turbulent day, was finally taken to the Olympic Village in Yanqing. After Meylemans’ arrival and a negative result, a third test was positive again, after which she was taken to a quarantine hotel. After she was allowed to leave this accommodation on Wednesday, she was first taken to another quarantine location.

She is now in a separate room in the Olympic Village. There she is tested twice a day and can train in isolation on the track. Meylemans showed pictures of her room in a video on the Internet. She wasn’t allowed to leave her room, everything was locked, she said. The clip also showed statements of solidarity from athletes and other celebrities from Belgium.

Touching video on Instagram

A first appearance on Instagram had already caused a stir when Meylemans tearfully reported on her experiences and said: “I don’t know if I can last 14 more days at the Olympic Games if I’m in quarantine.”
