This sentence by Fifa boss Gianni Infantino is a scandal

Fifa President Gianni Infantino has defended his plans for a World Cup every two years with an irritating performance. With a statement he left his listeners shocked.

There’s a very catchy saying, “Sometimes you can’t eat as much as you want to throw up.”

And that’s exactly what many football fans must have thought on Wednesday when they heard or read the latest statements from the already very controversial Fifa boss Gianni Infantino (read all further information here).

“We must give hope to Africans so that they no longer have to come across the Mediterranean to perhaps find a better life or, more likely, death at sea.”

With this sentence, the head of the world football association is currently promoting a World Cup every two years. He is suggesting that if a World Cup were to take place more often, Africa could also benefit from it and be able to “enjoy” major tournaments more regularly.

A shameful statement that leaves you stunned. A sentence that is not justification, but rather a firm slap in the face of every victim who has died on the Mediterranean in recent years because he or she has tried to flee from war, hunger and hopelessness, to be in Europe to be able to lead a better life.

Infantino’s statements are a scandal. He presents himself as a savior in a FIFA cloak, as a football superhero who wants to save “the Africans”. All he cares about is profit. He wants to enforce the World Cup every two years, at any price. But not out of charity. More tournaments simply mean a lot more money for his association. In order to achieve this goal, he is not above making any statements. No matter how presumptuous or even stupid she may be.
