Third division football club Türkgücü Munich files for bankruptcy

In terms of sport, Türkgücü Munich is anything but good this season. The third division soccer team is in 17th place in the table.

Now the financial worries in Munich are coming to a head. There had been reports from the club’s environment about an application for bankruptcy for some time. With the file number “1513 IN 198/22” it is now official. “In order to secure the debtor’s assets against adverse changes (§ 21 Para. 1 and 2 InsO), provisional insolvency administration will be ordered on January 31, 2022 at 11:30 a.m.,” it says.

Kothny: Insolvency “to be seen as an opportunity”

“Up until the day the application was submitted, we tried everything in our power to avert this step,” Managing Director Max Kothny is quoted as saying on the club’s website end, but as an opportunity. We now have the opportunity to realign ourselves without the burdens of the past and with the help of possible new, strong sponsors.”

It is said to be about two million euros that the club is missing to get the license for the coming year. On Wednesday, the association confirmed to the Süddeutsche Zeitung that “not all the necessary evidence for subsequent licensing” had been provided.

Türkgücü threatens nine points deduction

Türkgücü is currently assuming a deduction of nine points. The Munich team is currently 18th in the table with 21 points. After the deduction, the club would have been knocked off last. The ten points for the non-relegation zone would hardly be catching up.

“Together we can walk the rocky but promising path to a new beginning. The motto ‘Family everywhere’ applies now more than ever and will continue to apply to anyone who wants to be part of this club,” said Kothny.

On Saturday, after the bitter home defeat against Havelse, coach Andreas Heraf explained in an interview with “Blickpunkt Sport” that there was great uncertainty in the club at the moment: “We’re trying to focus on the sport, but we’re all people, you can do that don’t hide it, of course. We’re trying. But no one knows what’s going to happen next.”
