The right light at the changing table

Babies and toddlers are very sensitive to light. Parents should consider this when they equip the changing table with lights.

Bright lamplight can be uncomfortable when it shines directly on the face. Especially when you’re standing at the changing table in the middle of the night. Babies and toddlers, who are very sensitive to light, feel the same way.

You should therefore avoid spotlights and similar point light sources on the changing table. Unshielded halogen lamps or high-power LEDs are also difficult.

That is the advice of the industry portal Licht.de.

Dimmable light for the night

A separate lighting of the support is recommended. Reason: Since the parents usually stand with their backs to the ceiling light hanging in the middle of the room, their shadow falls on the child.

That’s why the experts at the changing table recommend lights that are aligned upwards. It also makes sense to have dimmable light, because lighting that is too bright at night when changing nappies or feeding them wakes up the children unnecessarily.

Luminaires with incandescent or halogen lamps that are simply covered with fabric or other easily flammable materials are not an alternative. These bulbs generate a lot of heat, which in the worst case can cause a fire.

Put mobile lights away from crawling age

From the point at which the little ones crawl, you also have to think about their safety.

►Parents should not set up any mobile lamps within their reach, especially none with 230 volt lamps and, for example, with the normal E27 screw sockets.

► The experts also advise against lights in the form of childish figures. Although these light sources only have a low output, their mains voltage is 230 volts.

►Licht.de recommends LED lights with plug-in power supplies instead. Your power supply is reduced to the so-called safety extra-low voltage and is therefore not dangerous for children.
