The price of electricity falls 5.2% this Friday and falls below 200 euros per megawatt hour

The The average price of electricity in the wholesale market falls 5.2 percent this Friday compared to this Thursday, to reach below 200 euros per megawatt hour (MWh) for the first time since last January 22.

Specifically, the average price of the ‘pool’ this Friday is in the €197.03/MWhalmost 11 euros less than the 207.89 euros/MWh of the previous day, according to data published by the Iberian Energy Market Operator (OMIE) collected by Europa Press.

By time slots, The maximum electricity price for this Friday will be between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.with 233.34 euros/MWh, while the minimum, of 166.59 euros/MWh, was registered between 05:00 and 06:00.

Thus, this Friday will be the lowest average price recorded by the wholesale electricity market for one day almost in the last two weeks, from the 190.41 euros/MWh registered on January 22.

The prices of the ‘pool’ have a direct impact on the regulated rate -the so-called PVPC-, at which Almost 11 million consumers are welcomed in the country, and serve as a reference for the other 17 million who have contracted their supply on the free market.

The increase in the electricity market in recent months is mainly explained by the high gas prices in the markets and carbon dioxide emission rights (CO2), at record highs this year.

Compared to a year ago, The price in the ‘pool’ for this Friday will be 277 percent higher than the 52.2 euros/MWh that it registered on February 4, 2021.
