US military personnel will not take part in combat operations in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said during a briefing. Broadcast was conducted on YouTube.
“The president [США Джо Байден] made it clear that he did not intend to send combat units to Ukraine for military operations,” he said.
The minister, however, noted that the Pentagon is preparing for different scenarios of the development of events and did not rule out that the country’s authorities could send troops to evacuate US citizens.

The head of the Pentagon also indicated that he did not consider Russia’s invasion of Ukraine inevitable. According to him, there is still time for diplomacy, and Washington, along with its allies, suggested that Moscow move from the crisis to increasing mutual security. Austin noted that the United States intends to stand “shoulder to shoulder” with NATO allies.
