Last night, 2,073 people spent the night in the registration center for asylum seekers in Ter Apel. That is again above the limit, for the sixteenth time this autumn. That is why the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) must again pay a penalty of 50,000 euros. The counter now stands at 800,000 euros.

Since Monday morning, the number of asylum seekers in Ter Apel has increased by 128. On Tuesday, the registration center exceeded the agreed limit of 2,000 people for the first time in two weeks.

At the beginning of September, the maximum limit of 2,000 asylum seekers was exceeded for the first time since the end of last year. By transferring asylum seekers to Leiden and Huizen, among others, there was some space available in Ter Apel. At the end of September there were again too many refugees in the center. In the first weeks of October, the COA again managed to fall below the limit, until Tuesday.
