In 1999 a final ruling arrived which has convicted two menidentified as the material perpetrators of four double murders. The so-called “snack buddies” were Mario Vanni and Giancarlo Lotti. The will is therefore to offer an authentic representation of the facts. But also that of doing justice to the victims, through the story of the pure truth.

Sollima: «There are many half-truths»

Stefano Sollimaformer director of Crime Novel – The Series, Gomorrah – The series And Subura, started working on this new productimmediately after submitting Slowlyhis latest film, at the latest Venice Film Festival.

The authors of the series explain. «We believe that telling the truth, and only that, is the only way to bring justice to the victims. In a story where there have been many possible monsters, over time and investigations, our story explores them, the possible monsters, from their point of view. Because the monster, in the end, could be anyone.”

In a recent interview with Variety, then, Sollima added. «I have been studying everything about this case for about a year. It’s just a very powerful story. It is complicated and delicate, of course, because it is a national tragedy with many victims. It is also an unsolved case, although many attempts have been made, to date there is no real monster, no real single culprit for all 16 murders.”

And he concluded. «There are so many half-truths. But what intrigued me most is that it could be the story of Italy’s transition from when it was a country with a peasant – or rural – culture to the break that occurred at the end of the Sixties, when sexuality was perceived as a means of expression. The moment in which these two cultures, archaic and modern, collided.”
