It was already clear that there was room for 8 North Hollanders in the 26-man selection of the Dutch national team during the World Cup. Now that all participants have announced their players, it is noticeable that there are also players with North Holland roots in other countries. NH Sport lists the names for you.

It will not surprise you that in Dick Advocaat’s Curaçao almost all players were not born on the island. More striking is that two goalkeepers in the selection were born in North Holland: Trevor Doornbusch (Haarlem) and Tyrick Bodak (Amsterdam). Other born North Hollanders are Tyrese Noslin (Amsterdam), Brandley Kuwas (Hoorn) and Sontje Hansen (Hoorn).

You can follow Curaçao’s matches on:

  • Sunday, June 14 against Germany from 7 p.m. (before the Netherlands starts)
  • Sunday, June 21 against Ecuador from 2:00 am
  • Thursday, June 25 against Ivory Coast from 10 p.m

Two players will be closely monitored from different parts of our province during the Morocco matches. Anass Salah-Eddine (Amsterdam) can prepare for his first World Cup with the Lions of the Atlas. Sofyan Amrabat (Huizen) was there four years ago when the team surprisingly reached the semi-finals.
You can follow the duels of Salah-Eddine and Amrabat on:

  • Sunday June 14 against Brazil from 00:00
  • Saturday June 20 against Scotland from 00:00
  • Thursday, June 25 against Haiti from 00:00

It also promises to be an interesting summer for the Kökcü family from Haarlem. Turkey has qualified for the final round for the first time since 2002, the World Cup in Japan and South Korea. That is also good news for the youngest son Orkun, because he will experience his first World Cup. He will be supported by his parents and older brother Ozan, who played for FC Volendam last year and left after the relegation.

Kökcü’s Turkey is taking action on:

  • Sunday June 14 against Australia from 6am
  • Saturday, June 20 against Paraguay from 5 a.m
  • Friday, June 26 against the United States from 4 a.m

Ramiz Zerrouki doesn’t ring a bell for some. The midfielder from Amsterdam has a history in the youth ranks at Ajax, but never broke through. He ended up at Feyenoord via FC Twente and was loaned out to the Tukkers again last season. Zerrouki will go to the World Cup with Algeria and will give the Dutch team a hangover in America on Wednesday.

You can see Zerrouki’s Algeria at:

  • Wednesday, June 17 against Argentina from 3:00 am
  • Tuesday, June 23 against Jordan from 5:00 am
  • Sunday, June 21 against Austria from 4:00 am

A big dream is about to come true for Brian Brobbey. His older brother Derrick Luckassen was called up for Ghana at the last minute. Amsterdammer Luckassen, former player of AZ and PSV, among others, replaces the injured Alexander Djiku. It will certainly be the defender’s first World Cup, as he has only been an international for The Black Stars since March.

You can follow the spectacle of Ghana:

  • Thursday, June 18 against Panama from 1:00 am
  • Tuesday June 23 against England from 10 p.m
  • Saturday, June 27 against Croatia from 11 p.m

From our clubs, AZ player Mateo Chávez (Mexico), Volendammer Juninho Bacuna (Curacao), Ajax players Wout Weghorst (Netherlands), Ko Itakura (Japan), Takehiro Tomiyasu (Japan) and Josip Sutalo (Croatia) will also be present during the World Cup.

With 48 World Cup participants, there is plenty to follow with a North Holland touch. The World Cup starts on Thursday, June 11 and lasts until July 19.
