Infectionist of the Ministry of Health Chulanov called the measurement of antibodies to COVID an empty occupation

It is not scientific to make a decision on vaccination based on the measurement of antibodies, Vladimir Chulanov, chief infectious disease specialist of the Ministry of Health, is sure. He spoke about this in an interview with RBC. It is worth vaccinating every six months based on the recommendations of the Ministry of Health

The decision to vaccinate based on the measurement of antibodies has no scientific basis, this is an empty exercise, said Vladimir Chulanov, chief freelance specialist in infectious diseases, in an interview with RBC.

Previously head of the Center Gamaleya Academician Alexander Gintsburg and his deputy, one of the creators of the Sputnik V vaccine, Denis Logunov, said that an antibody level of 300 international units (Bau / ml) completely protects against the coronavirus delta strain. The developers of the vaccine came to this conclusion after a study in which 4,000 Muscovites participated. Gunzburg explained that people with this level of antibodies can be “virtually unlimited.” Logunov also noted that a level of 300 Bau can be considered sufficient for protection, but to date there is no fixed level of antibodies that could protect against COVID infection with guarantee.

Chulanov – RBC: It is naive to think that the evolution of COVID will stop on the omicron

At the same time, the World Health Organization (WHO) does not provide estimates of protection from infection with coronavirus when reaching any level of antibodies. The WHO representative in Russia, Melita Vujnovic, has also repeatedly stressed that the presence of antibodies is not an obstacle to vaccination.

In a conversation with RBC, Chulanov said that in this case he agrees more with WHO. “The most correct way to get vaccinated in accordance with the recommendations given now by the Ministry of Health is in six months,” he said.
