The impact of stricter conditions: get fewer toddlers can go straight to primary school

The number of five-year-old toddlers who were sufficiently present in Dutch-language nursery schools to be allowed to go directly to primary school fell sharply last school year. This is evident from figures from Statistics Flanders. This has to do with the stricter conditions that were introduced with the compulsory education for five-year-olds. Due to the corona crisis, parents probably kept their child at home faster, responds Flemish Minister of Education Ben Weyts (N-VA).
