ICAO: Ryanair plane with Protasevich landed in Minsk due to false bomb report

Reports of the mining of the liner with Belarusian oppositionist Protasevich on board were false, but ICAO does not attribute their spread to any country. The report has not yet been published, but sent to member countries of the organization

The information about the mining, due to which the plane with the former editor-in-chief of the Nexta Telegram channel Roman Protasevich on board, was urgently landed in Minsk in May 2021, was false, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) concluded. This is reported “RIA News” with reference to the report that the organization sent to its members.

ICAO noted that they do not attribute the dissemination of information about mining to any state.

“Because neither the bomb nor evidence of its existence was found in preparation for the landing in Athens and after various checks in Belarus and Lithuania, it is believed that the bomb report was deliberately false,” the document says.

Minsk did not find confirmation of the interception of the aircraft with Protasevich in the ICAO report

ICAO announced on January 17 that it had completed the preparation of a document with conclusions about the incident with Ryanair and provided it to 193 member countries of the organization. The report was prepared by a special group, which includes experts in the field of aviation security, aircraft operation, air navigation and international air law.
