The head of Sakhalin promised to triple the passenger flow with the mainland

This year, the Sakhalin Region will receive two new ferries, which will ensure an increase in passenger and cargo flows by two to three times at the Vanino-Kholmsk ferry crossing, informed Governor of the region Valery Limarenko.

“We have a large investment program planned in the island region. And in order to fulfill it, it will be necessary to greatly increase the flow of goods,” added the Governor of the Sakhalin Region.

Ferries are being built in Komsomolsk-on-Amur at the Amur Shipyard, they are called “Vasily Oshchepkov” and “Alexander Deev”. The government of Sakhalin noted that with the start of their operation, the reliability of the maritime communication of the island with the mainland of the country will increase significantly.

The ferries will be able to operate during difficult weather conditions and move in ice up to 1 m thick. The maximum capacity of the vessels is 200 passengers, they will also be able to carry up to 9 cars and up to 32 railway cars.
