The ‘president’ demands Pedro Sánchez to position himself next to the Catalan school
The ‘president’ Pere Aragonès has guaranteed Catalan teachers this Saturday that it will be his Government that will assume “political and legal responsibility and to act in defense of the Catalan school model”, in danger, according to the Catalan Executive, due to the court ruling that forces schools to give 25% of classes in Spanish. Something that Aragonès himself has branded as “155 educational” and “attempt to break the consensus around a successful model”, such as the one used in Catalonia since the restoration of democracy and self-government institutions.
As it did on Friday, via Twitter, after the courts gave the Government two months to order compliance with the sentence, Aragonès has asserted in Vic that his Cabinet “will defend Catalan with all the tools at its disposal”. “Teachers should know that they have the Catalan government by their side,” he added, reiterating that he will work “so that families, students and teachers have maximum legal security.”
The ‘president’ has detailed that with the period open to submit questions they have “the opportunity” to make this defense effective. Asked if the Government is considering disobeying the ruling of the TSJC, Aragonès replied that “It’s not about obeying or disobeying, but about defending the model.” “This is done legally, we have the legal and legal arguments to do it,” he said.

For this reason, he added, the Spanish Executive must be “coherent” and position itself alongside the Catalan school and not the “political and ideological interference that tries to generate problems”.
Aragonès’s appeal, however, is not trivial since, if after these two months the Government has not given the pertinent order to comply with the sentence, It should be the Government of Pedro Sánchez that enforces the law. The central Executive has implied that it does not plan to request said forced execution and the fact that the procedure began in 2015 with an education law, the LOMCE, different from the current one, the LOMLOE, give the Generalitat room to avoid the application of the sentence.
