Foreign Ministry: Russia proposed to conclude an agreement on international Internet governance

Russia proposes to conclude an agreement on interstate regulation of Internet governance, said in an interview “RIA News” Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov. The treaty will become effective if adopted by all countries, he said.

“As for the problems of Internet regulation, Russia is in favor of the internationalization of Internet management and the equal participation of states in this process, the preservation of the sovereign right of states to regulate the national segment of the Internet,” the Deputy Minister said.

Syromolotov did not specify the parameters of the agreement, but added that the topic is being discussed within the framework of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU, a specialized agency of the United Nations).
